Sakha uVelwano Partnership
Empathy in Action
ABOUT US
A BRIEF HISTORY
In 2014 a group of students from the Packer collegiate institute in Brooklyn, New York and students from the Joe Slovo township participated in an annual cultural exchange program. The relationships bloomed into an ongoing partnership that allowed the students to stay connected between visits.
Since then, the individuals impacted by the experience worked to fund and maintain the partnership as a means of showing solidarity and providing mutual support.
Collective Resources
We believe that everybody has something to contribute.
Among other things, our resources include:
Our Time
Our Knowledge
Our Skills
Our Stories
Our Moral Support
Our Financial Support
While we recognize that we all have varying amounts of resources, our collective efforts strive for a more equitable balance.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Sakha uVelwano Partnership is a global network of students and educators who are committed to enacting empathy-based social change.
Together, our mission is to meaningfully engage with each other while harnessing our collective resources to carry out collaborative projects designed to support, enrich and empower our respective communities.
Meaningful Engagement
We believe that civic engagement starts with an open dialogue.
Talking helps us to gain a more robust understanding of who we are as people, and of the issues that affect our lives.
As we learn and understand more, we begin to feel each other’s triumphs and struggles as our own.
Collaborative Projects
We believe that sustainable change happens through collaborative work.
Together, our goal is to use the resources we have available to us to address the issues that matter to us.
By doing this, we work to create sustainable systems of mutual support that enrich and empower our respective communities.
